If carlsberg did mother's day...

After a last minute cancellation by CRICC, the AmmoKnights found themselves travelling to Ely to play Glamorgan Wanderers in a hastily arranged fixture. After being treated to a “super rugbyesque” game the week before the travelling mum’s were expecting a mother’s day try treat and they weren’t disappointed.

The scoring got underway following a rapid start by the ammoKnights with wing Morgan Hestleton grabbing the first of his four first half tries within the opening 2 minutes. With play was reminiscent of Wales pre-gatland offloads were abound and it wasn’t long before they opened up a healthy lead. Early scores from Leighton Pawsey (2), Chris A’Hearn and further tries from Hestleton had the visitors 34-0 in the lead. The home team were bolstered by now with AmmoKnights Morgan Jenkins, Ethan White and Pete Mitchell looked to get back into the game but the away team tails were up and they added two more tries and looked to go in a half time with a 46-0 lead. Glamorgan Wanderers finally got on the score sheet when some good phase play put guest player Mitchell over to score. The conversion was kicked by Ethan White and as the referee blew his whistle it 46-7 to Llantwit.

With the AmmoKnights players now in full flow for the home team, Morgan Jenkins and Ethan White added to the home team’s tally. The home team’s scoring was interrupted by a long distance Sam Williams try to lasted the pace of a 70m sprint to score. Having been joined by Leighton Pawsey, Glamorgan Wanderers scored the try of the game as they attacked from their own try line and following some superb hands went the length of the field to score under the posts.  With 8 minutes left and Wanderers now enjoying some pressure the scoreboard seemed to standstill at 53-32 to Llantwit. The AmmoKnights enjoyed the final score when fly half Ben Reilly saw fullback Ben Moignard stood in space out wide and putting in a cross field kick. Moignard used his football skills to control the ball before scooping the ball to score the final try and take the score to 58-32.

A great game of junior rugby played between two sides that love to play the game the right way. Huge credit to Ollie Wong, Morgan Greenaway, Ben Moignard, Ethan White, Morgan Jenkins, Pete Mitchell, Leighton Pawsey and Chris A’hearn who all played well for the Glamorgan Wanderers side who were struggling for numbers.  The AmmoKnights now head off to Bristol where they play fixtures against Kingswood, North Bristol and Broad Plain in a weekend off cross border challenges.
