A good time had by all.....

The AmmoKnights touring form continues to confound the masses as for the second year running they produced 2 dazzling displays of running rugby. The weekend began at Ashton gate with the players and spectators alike enjoying watching wales Under 20’s secure the Triple Crown. With bleary eyes following some over exuberant socialising the band of trusty followers woke to beautiful sunshine and after a hearty breakfast it was off to Kingswood RFC. The aptly named Knights gave a fantastic welcome and it wasn’t long before everyone was refreshed ready for the day’s big match. A change of rules and slightly smaller pitch offered a hefty challenge to the tourists but the AmmoKnights are a different proposition on tour and no-one was willing to let today be anything different.

From the kick off Llantwit reminded the English fans that Welsh teams do play running rugby and set about playing the game at a mighty tempo. To their credit Kingswood also played their part in a game that 11 tries and some fantastic rugby. Llantwit’s first try must have gone through every set of hands before  Ben “hips” Moignard glided over the muddy quagmire to score the opening try. This try symbolised the character of the game that was played to the true ethos of competitive rugby. There was a second try for Moignard, along with other scores for Pete Mitchell, Ben Reilly, Ethan White, Chris A’Hearn and Jake Lynch as the AmmoKnights notched up a 45-26 victory. Both sets of fans gave an excellent reception to all the players before looking forward to the true hospitality. Unfortunately that’s where Llantwit dominance ended as Kingwood were run away victors of the boat race and pretzel eating contests. A big thank you to everyone at Kingswood RFC for their warm welcome,  hopefully we will be able to return their hospitality in the future.

The next day saw the journey home interrupted by the small matter of a match against North Bristol and match two of the Bristol invasion. With a few aching bones and even bleary eyes the fans did wander whether the AmmoKnights could continue their sensational touring form. The visitors were helped in discovering that the North Bristol outfit were slightly under strength following the call up of 3 players to the Bristol academy. Playing on a huge pitch and with the wind in their face even the most die hard supporter couldn’t have predicted the 25 minutes ahead of them. Six unanswered tries were scored during periods of play that saw Llantwit spread the ball from one side of the pitch to the other stretching the North Bristol defence to the maximum. The pick of the tries was probably a solo effort by Morgan Jenkins. The scrum half chipped over the rushing defence and raced through to scoop up the loose ball. Still faced with a 50 yard sprint and several defenders he showed incredible tenacity to fight off the cover defence and score a superb try. Jake Lynch picked up a brace of tries along with Jenkins. Ethan white, Peter Mitchell and Chris A’Hearn also repeated their scoring feats from the Saturday to clinch a sensational 41-0 victory. North Bristol were equally as hospitable and it was a shame that more time couldn’t be spent at the club as players and spectators basked in the early afternoon sunshine.

Another fantastic weekend away for the Under 14’s whose parents, players and coaching team continue to share some great rugby memories. The challenge ahead for the players is to bring their tour form back to wales for the remainder of the Under 14’s season, whilst the team management have to start thinking about where we head at Under 15’s!
