15's finish September with a fine performance

CRICC were the guests to the Recreation Ground as the opening month of the Under 15’s rugby season came to an exciting finish. The visitors would have been hopeful of repeating their previous successes over the AmmoKnights with flyer Theo Cabango in their ranks. The match started at a breathless pace with both teams showing their attacking intent. CRICC struck first when a sleeping defence allowed a gap for the impressive CRICC centre to scamper through and score under the posts. By the time the applause was dying, the fans hands were warm again as Llantwit hit back. Fly Half Ben Reilly jinked outside two defenders and drew the fullback before releasing Ethan White to level it up. With a twist of the vice, Llantwit took advantage of the wind at their backs and scored twice more before the 15 minute mark. First up Scrum half Morgan Jenkins continued his impressive start to the season with a good solo try, before some slick passing released the exciting Harvey Kwan who stepped inside two defenders before accelerating his way to the line. 21-7 soon became 28-7 as hulking number 8 Pete Mitchell broke through the defence before releasing Jenkins for his 2nd try. Determined to contain the AmmoKnights lead CRICC hit back after some excellent pressure resulted in a try in the corner. The home side knew that a 16 point would be enough with the wind and set about increasing their advantage. After a succession of recycled phases Will Stewart had the easy job and running in under the posts and on the half time whistle it was 35-12 to the hosts.

CRICC kicked off the second half hoping to take advantage of the wind in their favour but some errant passing gave Llantwit the ball in a slither of space. Greedily accepting the invite Jake Lynch sprinted 50 yards to increase the home teams lead. CRICC then started to increase their pressure and Llantwit started to slip off tackles. CRICC took full advantage and run in 2 tries to reduce the lead and give them a hope of snatching a dramatic win. The home were in no mood to capsize and another solo effort from Jenkins re-established a healthy lead before wing Morgan Heselton added their 8th try and give them a 56-24 lead going into the final few minutes. The second half also ended with a try, this time for CRICC whose never say die attitude got them the final score of the match. The conversion was swiftly followed by the final whistle and the AmmoKnights had recorded another maiden victory over their Cardiff opposition. A flattering score line with the match much closer and both teams attempting to play good quality running rugby. With first time wins over Llandaff North and now CRICC, things seem to moving in the right direction for the Under 15’s. More tough tests are ahead in the coming months with a visit to local rivals Barry at the end of October.
