Horror show sequel comes back to haunt the AmmoKnights

After a week of letting their nerves settle the AmmoKnights found themselves in the outskirts of the Gower facing up against a good Swansea Uplands side. In the shadow of the mightily impressive Uplands club house the travelling fans took their spot hoping to see their boys rejuvenate their fighting spirit from season’s past.

Their hopes were dashed as within 90 seconds Uplands took the lead after a well worked try saw an overlap on the left hand side of the Llantwit defence and they took an early 7-0 lead. The visitors appeared to be stoked into life and after several phases of play number eight Peter Mitchell overpowered several players to score in the corner and the game looked on. Those moments of parity didn’t last long as at the 20 minute point, Llantwit were 30 points to 5 behind and an early bath looked on the cards again. Looking even more brittle than last week, the AmmoKnights defence crumbled as wave after wave of Uplands pressure resulted in tries being scored and by half time the game was balanced precariously at 50-5 to the home team.

Within 2 minutes the day was done as Uplands secured the 50 point advantage. After a brief discussion the coaches agreed to continue so at least 60 minutes rugby could be played and with the pressure off Llantwit finally begun to discover some semblance of fight. As usual it was left to Ethan White to carry the try scoring burden with 2 well taken tries, both of which he converted. The final 28 minutes saw a score of 15-14 to the home side to make the final score 70-19 to the home team. Few positives to be taken from another day of defensive frailty. Harvey Kwan showed some promising signs on his debut and Jake Lynch continues to show up well defensively. The AmmoKnights are now on the third leg of their away day travels, with Chepstow up next.

One thing that can’t be questioned is the parent’s commitment to travelling their players across South Wales for their rugby endeavours. If the players could replicate this die hard attitude then a change in fortunes wouldn’t be far behind!
