The Ammoknights “annus horribilis” got worse on Sunday as Skewen were the latest team to take advantage of the home sides generous tackling excursions. With rugby a scarcity for the Skewen players over recent months, they took out their frustrations on a Llantwit team struggling for confidence. With big ball carriers and a streetwise approach to the rules of the game the visitors showed far more appetite for the battle. The hosts did manage seven minutes without conceding as they looked to pressure Skewen at every opportunity. However struggling to get the ball, the AmmoKnights were never able to put together any persistent pressure and found themselves 27-0 down at half time.
With too much power for the home team Skewen run over, through and round some non-existent defensive efforts and run in 4 more second half tries. Llantwit did at least have some second half pressure and almost scored when it appeared full back ben Moignard was tripped whilst clean through but it wasn’t to be.
Things don’t get any easier over the coming weeks as first Gilfach Goch then CRICC come to the Recreation ground with Llantwit having never faired well against either side.
