Poor performance from the U13s

Continuing their run of home games to start 2019, Llantwit Major RFC U13s Tigers faced a Senghenydd RFC depleted by illness and injury this weekend.

In a marked improvement to the previous weeks wind and rain, conditions were cold but mainly dry, so there was much anticipation of a good contest, especially considering the extra space that would be available to each team as the coaches agreed to play the game with 12-players a side: 5-forwards,7-backs.

Sadly, and in total contrast to the visitors who thrived in the circumstances, the home team failed to adapt their game and never really got out of first gear.  With some excellent running, especially from centre and wing, Senghenydd constantly broke through the stretched defence of the Tigers, while some very clever kicking options constantly pushed the home team back into their own half.

Full credit goes to Senghenydd who also defended superbly, snuffing out repeated attacks and forcing a huge number of errors from a desperate home offence, which although presented with a number of opportunities failed to capitalise on any.

With the next game only a week away, there is a lot to work on for the Tigers at the next training session on Thursday.

It was a disappointing result, and one that the entire team and coaching staff will be determined to not let happen again.

On a positive note, it was great to see the continued improvement of new players and especially that of Jakub Jesiorski.  In only his third match for the team his determination and attitude stood out and gives hope of better things to come from this still relatively inexperienced group of boys.
