First XV back on the road

The First XV after another enforced break due to the Six Nations are back on the road tomorrow as they take on Tonyrefail in the league.

The Llantonians will be looking to convert  their recent good performance against league leaders Cefn Coed into a winning formula as they travel up into the Ely Valley. Tonyrefail have had a mixed bag of a season after losing just over half of their fixtures and are currently in eighth position in the league table. Llantwit will therefore on paper be favourites leading into this game especially as they won the previous encounter at the Recreation Ground 47-21, however that was back in the late autumn in fine weather and a firm surface. A trip up into the Rhondda in late winter with a heavy pitch is an entirely different prospect and paper form will be meaningless. Ton as they are colloquially known, had a good run in the cup this year falling as Llantwit did in the fourth round and even though they have suffered seven losses in the league some of their games in the last few fixtures have been applaudable; losing by just a point to Cefn Coed at home and beating Tylorstown away.

If Llantwit think this game will be a step down after taking on three of the league leaders in recent games then they will do so at their peril, kick off is at 2:30pm.

Team: 1. G David, 2. H Williams, 3. D Gardner-Ponting, 4. S Shea, 5. T Winter, 6. G Watts, 7. M Young, 8. J Lewis, 9. I Jones, 10. Josh Austin, 11. R Balmont, 12. R Davies, 13. Jack Austin, 14. T Coetzer, 15. L Dawes. Replacements A Bloomfield, S Coombs, D Liscombe, C Manning, R David.

If your unable to make the game then there is still action closer to home as the youth welcome Dinas Powis to the Recreation Ground kick off is also at 2:30pm.
