First XV players in sevens heaven!

With the start of the rugby season just a few weeks away some of Llantwit’s players have been keeping themselves ticking over by playing in the iPro Sport Super Sevens Series. This is some accomplishment as they were invited to play for the Scimitar Exiles in the event which by many is regarded as one of the top events on the Sevens circuit.
The professional competition sees twelve teams compete over four tournaments over the summer held at Bury St Edmunds RUFC and Maidenhead RUFC before moving to the more prestigious venues of the Sixways Stadium home of Worcester RFC and culminating last weekend at the Recreation Ground home of Bath RFC.
They must have felt at home in Bath as of course their own field carries the same name of The Recreation Ground!
The Scimitar Exiles missed out on the top places but were not outshone and recorded the most tries scored in the Worcester leg of the tournament. Competing against such revered Sevens teams as the Irish Wolfhounds, Samurai Barracudas and The Army.
The players representing Llantwit were in the photo from left to right Josh Austin, Rory Budina, Luke Dawes, Rhys Balmont and Jack Austin.
The boys will be nearer home this weekend though as Llantwit are entering the Tondu Evs7s on Saturday the 5th of August, one of the top Sevens tournaments in Wales. The event is hosted by Tondu RFC and being played at Coleg Cymunedol Y Dderwen, Heol Yr Ysgol, Tondu, CF32 9EL.
Let’s hope then that some of their experiences rubs off on the rest of the Llantonians and they have an enjoyable tournament.
