Youth team despite strong start succumb to Pontyclun

Llantwit Youth started well in this friendly encounter against Pontyclun at the Recreation Ground leading 12-5 at half time but eventually were overcome and lost disappointingly 12-31. The first of the home sides two tries came as quick centre Evan Holloway intercepted a wayward pass to set off on a 50metre run to the try line, converted by Liam Padmore. Their second try coming from Steffan Bugler after some good harassing of the opposition caused them to spill the ball and it was hacked on. The young Llantonians then battled hard to keep the visitors from scoring as they went down to fourteen after a yellow card. But just as the half time break approached Pontyclun managed to break through and score an unconverted try.

The second half was baffling for players, coaches and supporters alike as Llantwit despite having the lions share of possession and attacking repeatedly managed to concede 26 unanswered points. Pontyclun it must be acknowledged did take their try’s well and were worthy winners, it was just felt Llantwit had not performed as well as they should have. The debrief acknowledging that more commitment on the training paddock was required if this young and still developing side are to finish the season with a flourish.
