With the World Cup and the weather playing mayhem with the Sunday fixtures the Under 11’s turned their attention towards getting their first taste of Friday Night Lights as they headed to Llantwit Fardre. Our hosts who have had an excellent year recruiting new players opted against playing their schools district players so that their newer players got get some much needed game time. However they still proved to be fiercely competitive in what turned out to be a hugely entertaining match despite the cold weather conditions. Llantwit Major started with a bang with some elusive running leading to some early scores. Llantwit Fardre responded well scoring some early tries of their own and with cries of “come on Llantwit” from the crowd the game soon opened up as both teams prioritised attack over defence. Thanks to some generous refereeing both Llantwit’s were allowed to express the attacking nature of their games and a frenzied duel begun to see who could score the most tries. The more astute mathematicians may have been able to keep score, however there was no doubt that rugby was indeed the winner. Another debut saw Evan Lloyd become the 6th new player to don the colours of the blood and blacks this season to show that there is a ravenous appetite for rugby in Llantwit Major at the Under 11 age group.
