With the sun pounding down on Llantwit's First team pitch, both teams gathered ready to warm up before kicking off, what would become, a very tough match.
The first half began with a strong showing from Fairwater as they powered over the line to score an early try. However Llantwit fought back and caused an intense stand off between the two teams with Fairwater defending hard and Llantwit pushing up the field. Winger Rees H then found a gap in fairwaters strong defence and leaped over the line to bring the score 5-5. A nicely curved conversion from second row Jack R meant llantwit had taken the lead.
With one last push before the half time whistle Fairwater forced their way through the strong Llantwit defence and score twice.
But that didn’t stop Llantwit combined u15/u16 though, a strong defence, team work and awesome tackle meant that center Zak G was able to steal the ball and throw himself down over the try line. Also converted by Jack R.
This was quickly followed by Llantwit’s Rory J (aka John Deere) - using his immense power - forced his way over the try line and scored the first of his two tries. Bringing the score at half time in Llantwit’s favour to 19-17.
Llantwit came back out for the second half heads held high and ready for what would be a confrontational 30 minutes.
Unfortunately, a strong of injury's at the beginning of the second half meant that Llantwit had many players out of position towards the end of the game. This also meant that Fairwater could make a large comeback scoring three tries and bringing themselves back into the lead of the game.
Flanker Rory J (aka John Deere) powered his way once again over the line for Llantwit's last and final try bringing the final score to 26-32 to Fairwater.
A hard game for both teams with many positives. Big congrats to man of the match Flanker Rory J
Also a massive thank you to everyone who came up to support the boys.
