First XV back in league action

On March 7th 2020 Llantwit Major 1st XV played out a 45-10 victory over Llandaff North knowing that 2 subsequent victories would be enough to win the promotion and possibly the league title. Little could they envisage at the time that the landscape for sport and life would change so drastically that it would be 616 days before they return to WRU league action. Ironically it is the same opposition that Llantwit Major will be welcoming to the Recreation Ground this Saturday as they look to pick up where they left off in 2020.

During that time, we have seen new faces emerge in both the coaching and playing staff with the challenge of maintaining their high standards still at the forefront of the new look group. The return to rugby format on offer since August has offered the opportunity to young players like Connor Treadgold, Ollie Wong and Isaac McBride who now make their league debuts firm fixtures in the starting XV. The young players transitioning in with the established core of the successful 2019-20 team provides a deal of optimism for the new coaching team led by Rhys James.

With the reduced league format meaning teams will only play either home or away Llantwit Major will know they have to start with a bang to put pressure on their rivals. Whilst there may no promotion or relegation this season there is still the carrot of qualifying for an end of season play off for league winners.

With the weather looking fine why not head down to the Recreation Ground to support the start of the league season.
