First XV bag all the points again at The Rec

The Blood and Blacks despite a rusty display finished the game with full points scoring five tries against Ynysowen at the Recreation Ground with a 35-5 win.

Having not played a league game for seven weeks it was no wonder then that Llantwit were a bit ring rusty coming into this fixture and the first half was a scrappy affair with the home side having plenty of possession but not able to finish off some lively plays with knock ons and bad decision making with far too many miracle passes spoiling promising moves.
But slowly but surely they were starting to command the game and after a series of scrums in the Ynysowen 22, number eight Stuart Edbrooke just had enough room to stretch over to give the home side the lead. Loz Howley converting. And it was Howley’s boot which extended their lead a short time later as he slotted over a big kick from just inside the opponents half.
Llantwit were then reduced to fourteen as second row Jamie Lewis was given ten minutes in the sin bin after tempers got the better of the packs and a short dust up ensued.
The rest of the half was predictably then all about the visitors as the relatively young side threw everything at Llantwit to get themselves back into the game while they had the extra man. And they peppered the home sides defensive line time and time again. Even going for tap and go penalties to keep the momentum going. The home side just seemed to be holding out and when returned to fifteen thought they had survived. Only for Ynysowen to scramble over the line just as the forty minutes were up. The half time score 10-5.
With Llantwit now playing towards the School End the message at the break was to get an early try and take any momentum out of the visitors play and the players responded quickly as minutes from the kick off some loose play was quickly seized upon by the backs and showing some great handling and inter changing of passes centre Joel Thomas powered over. And with Howley adding the conversion it now gave Llantwit the fillip they needed to finally shrug off the ring rust.
And it wasn’t long before they crossed again this time through the pack who Ynysowen had tested early on in the game but were now in total control and a big push against the head saw replacement Rob Carter control the ball over the line in true number eight fashion.
Llantwit were now searching for the bonus point but weren’t having it all their own way as Ynysowen battled back into the game and the Llantwit defence was once again tested to the limit. This time though there was no break and cruelly for the visitors after a long period of pressure a loose pass was intercepted by centre Rhys Balmont who had to much gas to be caught as he raced over for a 60 metre try.
The fifth and final try came soon after as some good field position allowed Loz Howley to throw a huge pass out to his three-quarters who with some nice hands put wing Evan Holloway in at the corner.
Man of the Match was outside half, Howley who dominated the game with his tactical play out of hand and with the boot.
This week the Blood and Blacks are at home again as they entertain Cefn Coed before the Christmas break. Llantwit won the first game of the season reasonably comfortably, but since then Cefn Coed have strengthened their team and have had some fine wins and now sitting mid table; so there will no doubt be another cautious approach from the Llantonians, kick off is at 2:30pm
