Under 11’s building a fundraising total with a helping hand of Persimmon.

Llantwit Major Rugby Club’s Under-11s celebrated this week as they were named amongst the latest winners of Persimmon Homes’ Community Champions scheme. After the success of the team raising £1000 in July following a Pen-Y-fan climb the players hard work has been doubly rewarded thanks to the Persimmon scheme. Each month Persimmon Homes donates up to £2,000 to community groups in each of its 32 geographical operating areas.

The team plans to use the windfall to allow the youngsters to go on rugby tour in 2020. Rhys Thomas coach of the team said: “We are thrilled to receive this money from Persimmon Homes. It’s tremendous. “Taking the team on tour gives the children valuable experience and life lessons. The players have worked hard so far this year already with the Pen-Y-Fan walk and running stalls at party on the pitch. Having raised money through these events, this donation is a further boost. Seeing how much enjoyment the players got out of the Holland tour last year, helps to motivate us to provide the players with similar experiences.”. The team start their season on the 8th September and are still looking to fill spaces on their squad. If you’re interested in taking up rugby and in year 6 at school then get in touch with the club or attend training on a Wednesday night at 7pm.
