Junior rugby weekly round up 26th September

It was a busy day at the Recreation Ground as visiting teams from St Peters an Treherbert visited Llantwit Major to play their morning fixtures in another sunny September morning.

The Under 13’s played some exciting rugby in the game against Treherbert with both teams enjoying playing on the big pitch. Both squads are a mix on Under 12 and under 13 players as they look to build up their numbers following the long break. Llantwit Major started really brightly and looked to take the game to the visitors scoring some well worked tries, the pick of them finished by Kennan Faulkner with some excellent support work. Treherbert kept going and didn’t give up scoring 4 tries of their own on a day when it seemed everything went right for the home team. A good performance for this developing team who are still looking tore cuit personnel.

Our Under 11’s hosted a strong St Peters team who have the fortune of having some very experienced rugby coaches. St Peters were well drilled team and Llantwit Major had to step up to the challenge defensively. More engagement, better positioning and some excellent tackles made with a good team effort. The home team ensured that st Peters had to work hard to score their points.  Coaches did a brilliant job of encouraging the team to engage and remain focused. A touch game that saw some incredible focus and teamwork which our players showed throughout the duration.

On the Ham Lane Pitch our Under 10’s showed off all the hard work from their training sessions as they started to play with a bit more freedom. It seems they are beginning to pick up the new demands of the contact game with some ferocious tackling helping to thwart St Peters attacks.

Our Under 8’s continue to play mixed games with our Under 7s and they too played against St Peters who brought with them some big squad numbers. These age groups are beginning to pick up players and are always looking for new faces.

Away from the Recreation Ground our Under 16’s visited Porthcawl to renew rivalries from the Under 13’s season. Turning up with an impressive squad of 21 players Llantwit had to lend Porthcawl players and they played out a 14 aside fixture. Yet again the age group showed an incredible amount of character in another high scoring affair.
