U15's get ready for English trip with resilient performance against Cwmavon

Llantwit Major Under 15’s recorded an impressive away victory to Cwmavon on Sunday as they produced an emphatic second half defensive display to run out 45-17 winners. After an early exchange of tries, it was the home side who started the stronger with Llantwit struggling to match the early physicality of the Cwmavon play.

With the visiting players looking subdued and making some basic handling errors it didn’t take long for the home side to race into a 17-7 lead. With 20 minutes gone in the first half Llantwit’s forwards started to gain a foothold in the game as Joel Lougher and Aaron Moce started making big dents in the Cwmavon defence. It wasn’t before Dylan Rees capitalised on a defensive mistake to break through three tacklers to reduce the home teams lead. Tyler Lee soon got his second try of the game which Eli Hickman duly converted to give Llantwit a narrow 19-17 lead at half time.

Eli Hickman scored a good solo try with a dart down the blindside to kick start the second half scoring. Some deep kicking created uncertainty in the Cwmavon back three and this led to Keenan Faulkner showing good football skills to touch down and stretch the away teams lead to 31-17. The lead was soon extended to 38-17 when Liam Davies glided through the defence to touch down.

Llantwit’s defensive resilience was tested as the home team looked to restore some pride to the scoreboard but the visitors held out continuous waves of Cwmavon pressure. With both teams tiring it was left to Llantwit to get the final try after a break from Tyler Lee was finished off by Isaac Arrowsmith. Eli Hickman enjoyed a good day nailing 5 from 7 shots at goal. Llantwit head off on their first tour of the season as they travel east to play Farnborough and Basingstoke of the weekend.
